DSL Support – Windows Settings

Windows XP  |  Windows Vista


Incentre ADSL operates using a static IP network, which is non-standard across most ISPs.  As a result, it’s very important that your settings are correct in order to ensure your internet connection works properly.  Please read onward for help configuring Windows XP and Windows Vista.  These instructions can be used to check if the IP information you have entered is correct.

NOTE:  If you’re using a router to divide the internet connection across multiple computers and/or devices, that router will need to be configured with your static IP information.  The steps below describe how to configure things when you have your ADSL modem wired directly to your computer.


Windows XP

  1. Click Start, go to Control Panel (may be within the Settings sub-list)
  2. Open Network & Internet Connections, and choose Network Connections at the bottom (this may just be Network Connections within Control Panel)
  3. Here you should find a Local Area Connection, with a type LAN or High-Speed Connection.  Right-click on it and choose Properties.
  4. In the window now opened, there should be a list in the centre.  Choose Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IP v4) and press Properties.
  5. Ensure that your settings are for Use the following IP address and Use the following DNS, and enter all numbers provided to you.  Be sure that the numbers are correctly separated by the decimals.
  6. When complete, press OK, then OK again.  It may take a moment for the computer to adjust to the changes.  Once complete, try connecting to a webpage or another application that requires an internet connection.

Windows Vista

  1. Click Start, go to Control Panel (may be within the Settings sub-list)
  2. Choose Network and Internet, then within that, Network and Sharing Centre
  3. On the left Tasks menu, open Manage Network Connections
  4. Here you should find a Local Area Connection, with a type LAN or High-Speed Connection.  Right-click on it and choose Properties.
  5. In the window now opened, there should be a list in the centre.  Choose Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IP v4) and press Properties.
  6. Ensure that your settings are for Use the following IP address and Use the following DNS, and enter all numbers provided to you.  Be sure that the numbers are correctly separated by the decimals.
  7. When complete, press OK, then OK again.  It may take a moment for the computer to adjust to the changes.  Once complete, try connecting to a webpage or another application that requires an internet connection.
