Windows 2000 Millenium Edition - Dial Up Networking Set Up
A. Setting up Internet Connection with the "Connect to the Internet" Icon
- Select "I want to set up my Internet connection manually.." and click NEXT.
- Select "…phone line/modem…", and click NEXT.
- Enter area code, telephone number, and country code, and remove check mark "Dial using the area code and country code". Click NEXT.
- Enter Username and Password, and click NEXT.
- Enter Connection name (ie. Incentre), and click NEXT.
- "Do you want to setup an Internet mail acct now?", select Yes, and click NEXT.
- Enter display name (john doe), and click NEXT, enter email address, and click NEXT, select Incoming Mail Server "POP3", and the following:
- Enter Incoming Mail Server: pop.incentre.net
- Enter Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.incentre.net
- Click NEXT.
- Enter Account Name and Password, and select optional "remember password" and click NEXT.
- To connect to the Internet immediately leave the check mark, and select FINISH.
If you have connection problems such as your not able to pull up webpages, then enter the following DNS in the following area:
From CONTROL PANEL > double click on NETWORK > select TCP/IP Dial up Adaptor and click on PROPERTIES > select the DNS Configuration tab > and enter the following information:
- Select "Enable DNS"
- Enter Host: (username - ie. johndoe)
- Enter Domain: incentre.net
- Enter DNS servers and click on ADD: 198.161.96.1 and 198.161.96.5
- Enter DNS Suffix Search Order and click on ADD: incentre.net
- Click OK, and OK. Computer may prompt to be restarted, so simply restart it now.
B. Manual Connection Setup
- Start > Settings > Dial-up networking.
- Enter Country and area code. Click OK.
- Double click Make New connection, enter Name of connection, and click NEXT.
- Enter Area code, Dial-up Telephone number, and select country (Canada (1)), NEXT, and FINISH.
- Right click on the connection (ie. The Internet Centre), select PROPERTIES, remove check mark on "Use area code and dialing properties".
- Select "Networking" tab, select TCP/IP Settings, select "Specify name server addresses" and enter Primary DNS 198.161.96.1, and Secondary DNS 198.161.96.5, and click OK.
- Select "Dialing" tab, remove check mark on "Disconnect when connection may not be needed", and click OK.
