April 13, 2007 - Email Virus Alert

In the last 48 hours there has been a tremendous surge in email viruses making their way around the internet. Many of these messages appear to come from ‘Customer Support Center’ or ‘Customer Support Center Robot’. Please be advised that none of these messages have come from The Internet Centre. The messages claim to be patches and fixes for a virus, a worm, a Trojan, or spyware, but none of this is true. The attachments contain viruses, and should not be opened under any circumstance.

There are also some generic messages, with subjects like:

Virus Alert!

Worm Alert!

Virus Detected!

Trojan Detected!

Worm Detected!

ATTN!

Warning!

These are variations of the same. Again, please do not open these messages or the attachments on them - they contain viruses and should be deleted immediately. A good rule of thumb is this: if you aren’t expecting an attachment, or it isn’t from an email address that you implicitly trust, then you should delete it.

Thank you,

The Internet Centre Support Staff
