May 2, 2003 - Network Outage - Upstream Provider |
|
On Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at 8:04 PM Mountain Time, The Internet Centre suffered a large outage on all of its DSL connections in Alberta and B.C. and all dialup services that are not in Edmonton. The problem was with our upstream provider, and was repaired by our upstream provider by 9:40 PM. The technical problem was within 2 switches in our upstream providers’ network, which stopped all traffic to our DSL and dialup customers. We apologize for the outage, and hope especially that our tax-filing and month-end updating customers were not too inconvenienced. Servers on our premises, including the mail server, were not affected as the outage was not related to our Internet connection. Again, we regret and apologize for the outage, and I assure our customers that we will be having serious meetings with our upstream
provider to gain assurances from them that this will not happen again.
