Jan 30, 2003 - Important Announcement - Email Administration

Short version - for those who want to know what's happening but don't care about the details: Based on client responses and carefully selected defaults for those clients who did not respond, we put into place this morning a major email tidy-up. We have eliminated many "unwanted" email addresses which were adding to the spam problem.

If you did not respond to the online form, you may have some email problems beginning today if your email requirements were non-standard, for example, if you are still using your ccinet.ab.ca email address and did not let us know.

Please email support@incentre.net to report problems or call Ph. (780) 450-6787 (or Toll free 1-888-450-6787).

The details:

Over a month ago, we sent email to all the clients who had their email on our servers, and asked them to check which email addresses they were, and were not, using. This was to be used to clean up our mail system - to remove email addresses such as "...@ccinet.ab.ca" addresses which were no longer (or never) used.

We had chosen default values for those who did not complete the on-line forms, and using the responses that you had provided, together with the defaults that we had chosen, we put into place this morning this email tidying process.

The default values were chosen as follows:

  • No @ccinet.ab.ca addresses were kept unless it had been requested on the form.
  • If a customer has domain based email, for example joe@joecorp.com delivering to mailbox joe, previously he would also receive email addressed to joe@incentre.net. Unless he explicitly requested it on the form, the @incentre.net format will no longer work.

This email tidying was an essential step towards providing spam- and virus-filtering for all our customers. We will, in the next couple of days, be submitting our tidied list to Postini to enable those features for all our accounts.

We apologize for the length of time it's taken for us to get to here, and for the inconvenience to those whose email was temporarily affected by these changes.

We hope the wait and the inconvenience will be compensated by a huge reduction in the amount of unsolicited email (spam) that is received.

If you have any questions or would like further information, please email: support@incentre.net.
