May 22, 2002 - Network Upgrade - Bandwidth Usage Monitor

We are currently implementing a bandwidth usage monitor that will measure a customers' total bandwidth usage for a particular month. The majority of users will be within their allotted bandwidth allowance so this will not be a concern.

Customers who use ADSL, or peer-to-peer file sharing services such as Kazaa, Bearshare, Gnutella, WinMX, and any post-Napster file sharing services, etc, will need to watch their bandwidth usages to avoid additional traffic overusage charges at $10 per Gigabyte.

Peer-to-peer file sharing services such as Kazaa and others, can cause extremely high traffic usages whenever the services are connected. Many users simply do not realize that for every second that they are connected to the file sharing services, the traffic generated adds up extremely rapidly. These services should be disconnected whenever you are away from your computer.

Customers will be able to log into the bandwidth usage monitor, and monitor themselves. We will be releasing an official bulletin in the weeks ahead. If you have any questions regarding this service or any others, please feel free to contact us.
