Dec 14, 2002 - Network Status - Dial Up Authentication |
|
Commencing at 11:30 AM today, we saw a developing problem on our Radius server, which authenticates all of our dialup customers in the Province of Alberta. This was an intermittent problem which was therefore difficult to pinpoint. This problem demonstrated itself by providing only some authentications to be successful when people tried to dial in. A variety of messages would have appeared on our customers computers that are different depending on platform and Operating System, but would indicate that the client computer could not reach the Network or Server, or could not go anywhere when connected. Only some computers were affected. We received many calls from people who could not get on the first several tries, but then were able to get connected. We regret not being able to phone back all those who called, as we were focussed on fixing the problem. It so happens that the machine we are using for authentication is being replaced by a more robust machine in the week before Xmas holidays, and do not expect a repeat of this problem. We apologize for the time it took to pinpoint the problem. All services were
completely back to normal by 5:30 PM. People who were already dialed in online at
the time of this problem were unaffected. None of our DSL or web/DNS customers were
affected.
