Nov 21, 2001 - Network Outage - Telus Router Problems

A network router at Telus Advanced Communications in Calgary has been blamed for various Internet outages throughout Alberta.

The outage occurred sometime in the morning of Wednesday, Nov 21, 2001 and is expected to be repaired by Thursday.

An internal report several months ago, identified obsolete equipment within Telus' network to be an area of great concern, especially in this age of Internet network expansion. Evidence of the problem has been seen for the past several months with intermittent outages throughout the province, and just yesterday in several parts of Edmonton.

Symptoms of the outage could include difficulties accessing emails within Telus' mail system, or through other Internet Service Providers. Users may also experience poor or inconsistent Internet connections of various sorts.

If you are experiencing similar Internet problems, we advise you to limit your Internet usage for the duration of today. Customers within the Incentre network may or may not be affected in anyway by Telus' router failure.
