Warning: Virus W95.Hybris.gen is Spreading Fast

A worm virus has been discovered today that has the potential to create
havoc amongst email users across Alberta for the next few days. Upon
initial discovery, mail servers were shut down to minimize the distribution
of W95.Hybris.gen this afternoon.

For the next few days, all email users should not open any emails and
attachments with subjects similar to and a variation of the following:

  • hahaha@sexyfun.net
  • Snow White and the Seven Dwarves
  • anpo porn.scr
  • atchim.exe
  • branca de neve.scr
  • dunga.scr
  • dwarf4you.exe
  • enano porno.exe
  • joke.exe
  • midgets.scr
  • sexy virgin.scr
  • If you see such a file or an email remotely close, even from a sender you know, DO NOT OPEN the email. DELETE the email immediately. The worm virus searches for email addresses so that it can propagate freely and quickly, and will go as far as monitoring your Internet activities. To read more about the virus and for virus removal instructions, go to Symantec's Antivirus Research Centre (SARC) at: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w95.hybris.gen.html To prevent such a virus attack, remember to update your antivirus program and scan your hard drive on a weekly basis. Some antivirus programs can filter all emails for viruses before they are sent into your email program. Norton Antivirus is a recommended and a highly effective email and virus detection program. If you have any questions on the above, please feel free to contact The Internet Centre or email us at info@incentre.net.
