Windows XP DSL Setup

  1. Make sure the DSL modem is powered up, plugged into a telephone line which is DSL enabled, and has an Ethernet cable connecting to a computer network adapter or a network hub.
  2. Click START menu > CONTROL PANEL > NETWORK and INTERNET CONNECTIONS.
  3. Click on CREATE A NEW CONNECTION, and the "New Connection Wizard" window will pop-up.
  4. Click on NEXT > CONNECT TO THE INTERNET > NEXT > SET UP MY CONNECTION MANUALLY > NEXT > CONNECT USING A BROADBAND CONNECTION THAT IS ALWAYS ON > NEXT > FINISH.
  5. Back at the "Network and Internet Connections" window, click on NETWORK CONNECTIONS, right-click on your "Local Area Connection", select PROPERTIES, highlight "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)", click on PROPERTIES
  6. In the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties" window,
    • Select "Use the following IP address"
    • Enter IP Address: (assigned)
    • Enter Subnet Mask: (assigned)
    • Enter Default Gateway: (assigned)
    • Select "Use the following DNS server addresses"
    • Enter Preferred DNS server: 198,161.96.1
    • Enter Alternate DNS server: 204.209.46.1
    • Click OK.
To Change the Default Connection

  1. Click START menu > CONTROL PANEL > INTERNET OPTIONS, and click the CONNECTIONS tab.
  2. Select "Never dial a connection".
  3. Click APPLY and OK. Close the CONTROL PANEL to finish.

Optional - To Change / Edit IP addresses

  1. Click START menu > CONTROL PANEL > NETWORK and INTERNET CONNECTIONS.
  2. At the "Network and Internet Connections" window, click on NETWORK CONNECTIONS, right-click on your "Local Area Connection", select PROPERTIES, highlight "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)", click on PROPERTIES
  3. In the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties" window,
    • Select "Use the following IP address"
    • Enter IP Address: (assigned)
    • Enter Subnet Mask: (assigned)
    • Enter Default Gateway: (assigned)
    • Select "Use the following DNS server addresses"
    • Enter Preferred DNS server: 198,161.96.1
    • Enter Alternate DNS server: 204.209.46.1
    • Click OK.

Windows 95/98/ME DSL Setup

  1. Make sure the DSL modem is powered up, plugged into a telephone line which is DSL enabled, and has an Ethernet cable connecting to a computer network adapter or a network hub.
  2. Click START menu > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > NETWORK.
  3. Select the "TCP/IP - Ethernet Adapter" component under the Configuration tab, and click PROPERTIES.
  4. Under the IP Address tab, enter the following:
    • Select "Specify an IP Address"
    • Enter IP Address: (assigned)
    • Enter Subnet Mask: (assigned)
  5. Under the Gateway tab, enter New Gateway (assigned), and click ADD.
  6. Under the DNS Configuration tab, enter the following:
    • Select "Enable DNS"
    • Enter Host: (username)
    • Enter Domain: incentre.net
    • Enter DNS Server Search Order: 198,161.96.1 and 198.161.96.5, and click ADD for each.
    • Enter Domain Suffix Search Order: incentre.net
    • Click ADD.
  7. Click OK and OK. The computer may prompt you to restart. Do so now. You may also be prompted for a Windows CD-Rom.
To Change the Default Connection

  1. Click START menu > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > INTERNET OPTIONS, and click the CONNECTIONS tab.
  2. Select "Never dial a connection", click on LAN Settings, select "Automatically detect settings".
  3. Click OK and OK. Close the CONTROL PANEL to finish.

Optional - To Change / Edit IP addresses

  1. Click START menu > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > NETWORK.
  2. Select the "TCP/IP - Ethernet Adapter" component under the Configuration tab, and click PROPERTIES.
  3. Under the IP Address tab, edit the IP address and subnet mask as required.
  4. Under the Gateway tab, edit the default gateway address, and click ADD.
  5. Under the DNS Configuration tab, edit as required.
  6. Click OK and OK. Restart the computer.

Macintosh DSL Setup

  1. Make sure the DSL modem is powered up, plugged into a telephone line which is DSL enabled, and has an Ethernet cable connecting to a computer Ethernet port or a network hub.
  2. Click APPLE-Menu > CONTROL PANELS > and TCP/IP.
  3. Select the "Connect via: ETHERNET", and "Configure: MANUALLY".
  4. Enter the following information:
    • IP Address: (assigned)
    • Subnet Mask: (assigned)
    • Router Address: (assigned)
    • Name Server Address: 198,161.96.1 and 198.161.96.5
    • Search Domains: incentre.net
  5. CLOSE the window, and SAVE the configurations.

Optional: Macintosh - Managing TCP/IP Connections
Having multiple TCP/IP settings are convenient for laptop users switching between dial-up and DSL.
  1. Select APPLE-Menu > CONTROL PANELS > and TCP/IP.
  2. Click on FILE and CONFIGURATIONS. Or Apple-K.
  3. Click on Duplicate, and enter a "Connection Name" (ie. ADSL, or Internet Centre, or Dial-up). Click OK.
  4. Click on the "Connection Name" to edit its TCP/IP settings. Configure a Dial-up Setting or a DSL Ethernet Setting.
  5. CLOSE and SAVE each setting.
  6. Repeat #2, for each TCP/IP setting you wish to create.
To Switch Between TCP/IP Internet Connections

  1. Select APPLE-Menu > CONTROL PANELS > and TCP/IP.
  2. Select Apple-K. Or FILE and CONFIGURATIONS.
  3. Select the "Connection Name", and click Make Active.
  4. Connect to the Internet.
